The Commission was established by the NSW Government, through the Mental Health Commission Act 2012, to monitor, review and improve the mental health system and the mental health and wellbeing of the people of NSW. One of its first tasks was to develop a draft strategic plan for mental health in NSW which was adopted by the Government in December 2014.
The Commission has developed a business plan for 2016-17 to support the directions of the strategic plan, now known as the Living Well mental health reform strategy, and more broadly to promote good mental health and wellbeing for everyone in NSW. This work also reflects the priorities of the NSW Government in accordance with the Charter Letter provided to the Commission by the Minister for Mental Health, the Hon. Pru Goward MP.
