This reform initiative showcases trauma informed person-centred care in Wagga Wagga. It is championed by Dr Jonathan Ho a local GP who is passionate about helping people through trauma by providing the right type of care. The program began in 2018, with the primary focus for General Practitioners (GPs) to assist with the care and coordination of the person’s recovery journey from mental health or drug and alcohol issues and to collaborate with other agencies to improve access to services, psychosocial supports and treatment options. This reform initiative provides care that is not service-driven but person-centred and collaborative resulting in better patient engagement and a safer emotional space.
