WayAhead launched Mental Health Month on September 28 with the annual Mental Health Matters Awards. Among the many organisations recognised was the Clarence Youth Action Group, which won the Commissioner’s Community Champion award.

Formed in response to high youth suicide levels in the Clarence Valley, this group of 12 to 25 year olds advises their local council on youth issues and holds events designed to bring young people together.  Youth Week in April saw the CYAG host six events, including  a music festival with a mental health pledge wall and a mental wellbeing forum with local school children. The other nine winners at the Mental Health Matters Awards included long-standing carer advocate Peter Heggie and the makers of the ABC-TV series My Year 12 Life. Watch videos about each of the winners on WayAhead youtube channel.
